About
I grew up in Austin Texas, with a mother who nurtured my love of art. By age 5 I knew I wanted to be an artist. When I got older I found that channeling my creativity through clothing – creating clothing—was my art form of choice. I graduated from Pratt Institute in 2016 with a BFA in Fashion Design.
Thoughtful design has always been important to me. This comes to light in different ways in the different products I have created over the years. In my thesis I listened to the fabric and re-imagined the way traditional pattern pieces were placed on the form. I was heavily influenced by Abstract expressionist artist Willem De Kooning who created shapes that at first seem unrecognizable but closer inspection reveals layers of paint and collage the blend to abstracted familiar forms, like a female body. Similarly my silhouettes lying flat, or on a hanger never looked like much, but transformed on the human body.
In my professional career I have turned this thoughtfulness into a distinct interest about the customer for whom I design. A curiosity, a need to know and understand the customer down to how she takes her coffee is what drives me. In turn I yearn to grow her understanding of what fashion can do for her. The intentionality of fabric choice – hand feel, fiber content and natural performance attributes— to the cut of a silhouette all play a roll.
Educating the customer is one of the most important things a designer can do. In 2020 more and more consumers are becoming more conscience of where, how, and from what a product is made. The apparel industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world. I hope to help this field become more aware of the detriment were doing to the earth, and do my part to create a more sustainable future for the Fashion industry.
